New Fire Chief and Director of Emergency Services for Medicine Hat

The City of Medicine Hat has announced long time member of the Medicine Hat Fire Service Chad Eakin will become the new Fire Chief and Director of Emergency Services.

The announcement was made on May 11 from the City of Medicine Hat that Eakin had accepted the position after being recommended by the previous Chief Brian Stauth. Eakin joined the Medicine Hat fire service back in 2007 then later in 2019, He became Assistant Deputy Chief then only two years later Deputy Chief in 2021.

With over 20 years of experience in emergency services and being in key leadership roles with the Medicine Hat Fire Service, City Manager, Ann Mitchell explained the importance of having a good succession plan in the Fire Service, “Succession planning is an important aspect of organizational success…. the organizational structure in the Fire and Emergency Services is an example of how a succession plan with structured opportunities for mentorship, coaching and opportunities to lead can be very successful,”.

Former Chief and current Managing Director of Public Services Stauth who supported the dissension on appointing Eakin to the position, expressed his confidence that Medicine Hat Fire Services and Emergency Services will be in good hands, “I know he will do a great job in leading the Fire and Emergency Services team and overseeing this critical service to our community. Medicine Hat is in good hands.”

Eakins’s new role of Fire Chief and Director of Emergency Services went into immediate affect at the time of the announcement.
