Showcasing Indigenous Culture in Calgary’s Downtown Core

A part of National Indigenous History Month, Four Winds Indigenous Showcase & Market was set up at Bow Valley Square to show Indigenous culture in the heart of Calgary’s Downtown.

The market had many vendors in the Treaty seven area coming to showcase their works including some from outside of the territory coming to the show.

Four Winds Owner and organizer for the Bow Valley Square show case was Indigenous Hip-Hop artist Tony Tootoosis who shared with CJWE more of the how they showcase displays Indigenous Culture.

The fashion show had the various Indigenous designers showing their works including the Rez Life and Tootoosis clothing line. A hope for the showcase is to empower the next generation with many of the models for the being youth showing their heritage while walking the runway.

Another part of the showcase was a mini–Powwow featuring a drumming group from the Siksika Nation. Before each dance a Tootoosis shared the history and importance of them along with its history.
