Tsuut’ina 50-years celebration at Redwood Meadows Fair Grounds

Tsuut’ina Nations for four days, hosted events that celebrated Tsuut’ina culture and welcomed visitors from across Alberta and beyond.

From July 26 – July 30 the Tsuut’ina Nation hosted their 50-years celebration where the POWWOW, hand games, and rodeo place in the Redwood Meadows Fair grounds with a golf tournament teeing up at the Redwood Meadows golf course and slo-pitch tournament happening in Okotoks.

July 26 and 27, the celebrations focused on the youth categories of the celebrations.

This part of the celebration was to celebrate the youth participants in the rodeo and POWWOW, so they will have the spotlight.

During the Youth POWWOW, CJWE spoke with youth jiggle dancers Iridessa Cardinal and Nova Heavenfire about their experience at the Youth POWWOW.

CJWE spoke with elders Keitha Manyhorses and Sheila Manyhorses who recalled when the celebration first moved to the fair grounds and their hopes for the future.

As the main events kicked off the fair grounds and hosted over 40-thousand people over the weekend.

Each event saw the following participants in the various events:

  • 200 Golfers
  • 300 in the Rodeos
  • 32 Slo-pitch Teams
  • 76 Hand Game Teams
  • 12 Drums in the POWWOW
  • Approximately 1000 registered Dancers in the POWWOW
