A day after the shooting of two victims in northeast Calgary, a man was killed on a busy Saturday afternoon when gunfire erupted in a parking lot at the south entrance of Market Mall.
Police were alerted about the gunshots at around 2:21 p.m. Soon, the entrance was closed and people exiting found their cars behind police tape. Officers also rounded up all witnesses and took them for questioning to Calgary Police Service headquarters — Westwinds.
Police issued a statement Saturday evening, saying they are currently looking for a “white 2015-2016 model Volvo XC60,” adding investigators are “looking to speak with the driver who may have information about the incident.”
Staff Sgt. John Guigon said earlier Saturday there’s no indication the incident is connected to the one Friday night outside Deerfoot Mall, which left two people injured.
The shooting had occurred shortly after 10:30 p.m. in a parking lot facing the Rec Room.
Guigon added both male victims — an adult and a teenager — suffered injuries that didn’t threaten their lives.
Investigators visited the site and found several shell casings. They have also seized several vehicles police believe may be associated with the offence.
“They’re still processing them, and the forensics is still being completed on the evidence gathered,” Guigon said.
