Feature documentary film AITAMAAKO’TAMISSKAPI NATOSI: Before the Sun, follows relay racer Logan Red Crow and her life as a jockey for Old Sun Relay from Siksika.
Windspeaker Media spoke with executive producer Carey Newman whose traditional name is Hayalthkin’geme from the Kukwekum, Giiksam, and WaWalaby’ie clans of northern Vancouver Island, and Coast Salish from Cheam of the Sto:lo Nation along the upper Fraser Valley.
Newman was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal in 2017 and was named to the Order of British Columbia in 2018 and he was recently appointed as the inaugural Impact Chair in Indigenous Art Practices at the University of Victoria.
The film will be showcased in Calgary at the Calgary film festival September 23 at 5:45pm and 2:00pm on September 30.
