World Championship Handgames Tournament at the Siksika Arbor

Over the Thanksgiving long weekend, hundreds of people tested their skill at the World Championship Handgames Tournament held in the Siksika Arbor.

The event was organized by the Siksika Handgames Club and it brought people from the Yukon and as far south of the State of Oklahoma.

For many, the jackpot of $45,000 dollars drew in teams but, First Nation Handgames are a traditional way of healing as a way to let go of their worries and sorrows.

Vice President of the Sikiska Handgames Club Mario Water Chief shared with CJWE a run down of how to play format of the Tournament.

 

One of the regulations of the tournament was the restriction of artificial or “remo” drums. Water Chief shares the reasoning behind the ruling.
