With improvements coming to Calgary’s Transit System, Calgary Transit announced that its ridership levels have almost bounced back to pre-pandemic levels.
This was due to the COVID-19 pandemic which caused much of Calgary transit to limit service and capacity to many of its routes.
Calgary’s Transit Service announced on October 19 that as of September 2023 ridership on LRT and Busses boomed with a 92 per cent of pre-pandemic levels in 2019.
Last month Calgary’s Public Transit System saw approximately 14-million users which is a 30 per cent increase from September 2022.
For LRT, the Blue Line which runs from Saddletown to 64th Street has been operating with 13-minutes between each train.
The city aims to improve the service for the Blue Line to be similar to the Red Line by 2024.
Currently the Red Line operates at intervals of 10-minutes between each train between 5 A.M. and 9 P.M. Daily.
Calgary Transit is currently working to a goal of hiring 800 new bus drivers by the end of 2023 to encourage more use of the transit system.
