For many Indigenous communities in Canada, language has been a key element in not only reconciliation but also reclaiming culture and heritage.
In the Tsuut’ina Nation south of Calgary Alberta, only approximately one per cent of the population know how to speak their Dene dialect.
As away to empower their language speakers and encourage those seeking to learn about it the Gunaha Institute is organizing a powwow.
The powwow dedicated to promoting the power and importance of the Tsuut’ina dialect.
CJWE spoke with Cieran Starlight about the powwow and the importance of language in the Tsuut’ina culture.
The Powwow will be announced on the Tsuut’ina Gunaha Institute’s social media platforms and the CJWE community calendar.
