The first annual Doreen Turning Robe Tiny Tots Pow Wow

By Digital News Nov 6, 2023 | 2:06 PM

Awo Taan does a lot of incredible work in the community. They have kept the life’s work of the late Doreen Turning Robe going by putting on the first annual Doreen Turning Robe Tiny Tots Pow Wow. The community gathered Friday at the Marlborough Community Centre, and a bunch of Indigenous youth were able to take part in the Tiny Tots Pow Wow. I got the chance to speak with Randy Turning Robe Junior of the Turning Robe singers, all about the Pow Wow and the work his late mother Doreen did in the community to connect many Indigenous youth with cultural activities. You can hear the interview here:

The Awo Taan Healing Lodge Society is a 32 bed full-service women’s emergency shelter in Calgary, Alberta, dedicated to providing services to women and children from all cultures.  Our shelter operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with both on-site and on-call counsellors available at all times.
