Alberta is extending it’s freeze on new photo radar for another year.

The freeze, announced in 2019 and has been extended multiple times already. Devin Dreeshen, the minister of transport and economic corridors made the announcement earlier this week.

Starting on December 1st, Dreeshen said photo radar will be banned on provincial ring roads like Anthony Henday Drive and Stoney Trail and promised to stop “fishing hole” speed traps.

Edmonton and Calgary will have the opportunity to redistribute photo radar locations used on provincial ring roads to school zones, construction zones and playground zones.

Between 2022 and 2023, Alberta said they generated $171 million in profits through photo radar
