More opportunities are coming for Indigenous Artists in Southern Alberta as Banff’s Whyte Museum in partnership with Parks Canada are seeking Indigenous Artists in the Treaty 7 area for a mural project which will be featured at the Cave and Basin National Historic Site.

CJWE spoke with Dawn Sauders Dahl, Manager of Indigenous Relationships and Programs at the Whyte Museum explains how the program got started.

A major element of each of murals is the telling stories of Indigenous People’s tires to the land.

Selected participants will have the opportunity of working with established artists in the Treaty 7 community and of the Whyte Museum be assisted throughout the process of the murals.

Dahl explains more.

To help artists in the Stoney Nakoda Nations and Blackfoot Confederacy apply to the program, Dahl will be traveling through out Treaty 7 to help artists with their applications.

Dahl will be stopping at Blackfoot Crossing Historic Site on Jan. 23 from 1-4 p.m., Chiniki College on Jan. 24 from 1-3 p.m., and Red Crow College on Jan. 25 from 1-4 p.m.

More information about the project can be found on the Whyte museum’s website.
