Balzac Billy predicts six more weeks of winter

Feb 2, 2024 | 8:29 AM

Groundhog Day in Balzac has been a longstanding tradition on figuring out if Albertans have more winter or an early spring thanks to the man sized groundhog, Billy.

The groundhog’s behavior is a way of forecasting the weather. If the groundhog sees his shadow, it will mean that winter is to continue for six more weeks.

Balzac Billy has been around since the 1970’s with an 83% accuracy rating. This year he did predict six more weeks of winter.
