On January 24, 2024, Siksika Nation Chief and Council officially approved their Land Use Plan.
Siksika Nation’s lands include nearly 210,080 acres of land.
The reserve has about thirty community pastures and developed agricultural land as well as private pastures.
Siksika Nation is planning for population growth and will need more community developments and infrastructure to accommodate more people, the Land Use Inventory engagement process will be valuable asset to plan for the population growth.
The three phases started with Phase One, assessing the Need & Capacity Development in 2022.
Phase Two was the Land Use Plan Development in 2023.
Phase Three begins in 2024 with Implementation, Monitoring and Evaluation & Compliance 2024.
There will be ongoing opportunities for feedback on the plan, policies, and processes as Phase Three is getting started this year.
Chief and Council are planning a celebration to report all this gathered information to the community in the spring and summer.
