Drums, songs, and bells echoed in the Enmax Centre over the weekend as thousands gathered in Lethbridge for the Blackfoot Confederacy’s International Powwow & Festival.

Powwows are what bring communities together for a time of celebration and connection through culture.

On February 24, thousands of people many of whom of the Blackfoot Confederacy along with members of the surrounding communities gathered at the Enmax Centre in Lethbridge for the annual International Powwow and Festival which included 70 vendors showcasing their talents.

What set the tone of celebration is the power of the kettle drums from various groups in the Blackfoot Confederacy.

Member of the Blackfoot Confederacy Drum Group and singers, Bucky OldElk explained how the drum brings life to the celebration.

While many celebrate culture at Powwows, many come for healing through songs and dance.

Seasoned Grass Dancer Theron Black of the Blood Tribe shared how healing takes place.

As summer draws closer, the Powwow Trail will be opening again with communities hosting various types of celebrations.
