The Federal Carbon Tax was put into action April 1, 2024 meaning Canadians will have to pay approximately 3 cents more per litre at the pump for a tank of gas.
Before the Easter long weekend, the average price for a litre of gas was 17 cents but, with the increase it has been pushed to roughly 23 cents per litre.
In southern Alberta just west of Calgary at the Cochrane and Bragg Creek turn-offs along Tans Canada Highway 1, a gathering of roughly three hundred people slowed down traffic heading west and east in protest of the new Federal Tax.
The protest was organized by a grassroots group called the Nationwide Protest Against Carbon Tax and through social media connected and were able to gather along the highway.
One of the social media platforms used was Facebook and one of it’s admins Judy Martens who drove up from Lethbridge Alberta for the protest shared why so many have gathered.
Many of those gathered including Martens said they’ll be protesting until the tax is scrapped leading to fuel prices drop.
Traffic going east and west bound along Highway 1 will be reduced to one lane both ways meaning commenters both ways should be prepared for delays as traffic backs up.
