The current wildfire danger in the Calgary Forest Area (CFA) remains LOW. Recent widespread snowfall has impacted almost all corners of the area and helped subdue the wildfire danger.
More spring-like, warmer conditions are expected this week which will expedite the snow melt. Areas of exposed, dry vegetation will present increased risk over the coming days and weeks.
Due to dry conditions and active wildfires, Alberta Wildfire has issued a FIRE ADVISORY across the Forest Protection Area.
Although the fire danger remains LOW in the CFA, this fire advisory has been put in place as a precautionary measure. Under this advisory:
- existing fire permits remain valid, however extension requests may not be granted
- new permits will be issued on a case-by-case basis, for essential burning only
- campfires are allowed in both designated campgrounds and random camping areas
- fireworks and exploding targets are prohibited
Landowners who have done any burning over the winter and/or previous permit holders are encouraged to revisit the burn locations to ensure these fires are fully extinguished.
This advisory will remain in effect until conditions improve or further escalation is required.
