Celebrating the heroes and pioneers for National Indigenous People’s Day, the National Music Centre will be featuring a new batch of Indigenous artists in the Speak Up! Exhibit.

The Exhibit first started back in 2019 to share the stories of Indigenous musicians in Canada and their impacts in the music industry.

The selection of artists featured in the exhibit for 2024 are Willie Thrasher, Leela Gilday, Edmund Bull, and The Bearhead Sisters.

One of the major elements of artists becoming part of the exhibit is based on how they have influenced their communities through music, and later approved by a panel.

Curator of the Speak Up! Exhibit David McLeod of Pine Creek First Nation shared with CJWE the roles the 2024 artists have played in Canadian Music.

Admission to the National Music Centre will be for National Indigenous Peoples Day and will include a live performance from Sandra Sutter, Wyatt C. Louis, and Willie Thrasher with his partner Linda Saddleback at 1 p.m.

National Music Centre will be open all day until 5 p.m. where guests can visit the exhibit to see past entries and discover the many Indigenous artists who have/are making impacts in music today.
