A new scoreboard will be installed over centre ice at the Scotiabank Saddledome in time for the start of the 2024-25 season.
The new “Sportsnet Scoreboard” will replace the Energy Board that has been in place at the Saddledome since the mid-2000s.
Much like the scoreboards that have recently been installed in Colorado and Vancouver, the new Calgary scoreboard is rectangular in shape and primarily consists of four massive screens that each face one side of the arena bowl. It also includes a large LED ring that will primarily be used for advertisements.
Officials say the scoreboard will be a temporary unit and will not be brought into the new arena.
Another scoreboard will be designed specifically for that purpose.
Construction on the Flames’ new downtown arena is expected to begin later this year, with the club currently scheduled to move out of the Saddledome and into its new digs in time for the 2027-28 season.
