Fire ban and outdoor restrictions still in place but indoor water restrictions have been lifted by the city of Calgary

Calgarians have made sacrifices over the last month as the city has been dealing with a catastrophic failure of a water main line. Residents were tasked with reducing water consumption by 25 percent to ensure the city would be water for hospitals and emergency crews if needed.

The Bearspaw feeder main is now back in service and has been reconnected to the rest of the city’s water distribution system.

The amount of water flowing through the feeder main is being slowly increased as crews monitor for additional leaks or breaks, and as of earlier today it was at 50 percent capacity and slowly rising.

At a press conference today Mayor Jyoti Gondek brought Calgarians some much needed good news.

Indoor Water use can now return to normal.

There are still outdoor water restrictions and a fire ban in the city of Calgary, but restrictions will be lifted in a phased approach, in the coming days, as crews continue to monitor system stabilization.
