A fire ban is in place on all open fires in Lethbridge’s River valley, effective immediately and until further notice.

Conditions are critically dry due to humidity below 30 per cent and high temperatures expected throughout the week.

These weather conditions can significantly increase the risk of fire in the river valley.

Residents are reminded the river valley fire ban does not apply to backyard fires.

Residents are still permitted to have a fire in a backyard fire pit using clean, dry firewood.

However, the city of Lethbridge is reminding residents to use caution when disposing of smoking materials, as they can easily ignite dry vegetation and cause uncontrolled fires.

For more information on fire bans, visit the city of Lethbridge website.
