The annual Chili Cookoff is turning up the heat this weekend as 16 original recipes battle for the title of best bowl in Medicine Hat on Saturday July 12.

From a hot bowl of chili to seeing who can eat the most watermelon there is a little something for everyone at the annual chili cook-off.

Residents of Medicine Hat may notice that there are not as many options of chili this year as the construction along main street has reduced the size of the annual cook-off.

According to Environment Canada, temperatures are expected to climb as high as 30 C in the Medicine Hat and Redcliff region.

Local business owner of 7 Rivers Trading CO. and one of the organizers for the cook-off Sarah McNeal shares how locals can beat the heat while enjoying the hot bowl of chili.

Parking will be limited due to construction and shuttles will be available to the cook-off from the Athletic Park with the cook-off starting at 11 a.m. with bowls starting at $5 dollars and special pottery bowls for $10 dollars.

More information about the cookoff can be found on the Medicine Hat Camber of Commerce website.
