Aug 27, 2024 | 10:06 AM

Calgarians want to see more green space, performance areas and lighting in the new Olympic Plaza layout.

The City is sharing the results from their public engagement survey surrounding the Plaza that polled residents about what they want to see in the redevelopment of the downtown area.

The survey was conducted earlier in the spring and got responses from more than 3,100 residents.

The top five design features Calgarians want to see in the redevelopment include more green space, a performance/concert area, festive lighting, an outdoor eatery/patio and a skating surface.

Olympic Plaza will be closed from the end of 2024 to 2028 to complete construction for both transformation projects.

The Olympic Plaza Transformation will cost approximately $70 million, of which $40 million has already been allocated through the city’s 2023-24 budget.
