Calls for Justice for Indigenous People ahead of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is 27 days away, but there is still an ongoing call justice many Indigenous people in Canada.

Calls upon the Alberta Justice System were made loud on September 3, as members of Calgary’s Indigenous community gather in support of Miss Murdered Indigenous People MMIP.

The rally was held in solidarity in the response of the Manitoba serial killer Jeremy Skibicki’s conviction last week.

Organizer of the gathering Nichole Johnson shares how she demands the courts to pass judgment in the case of her nephew Colton Crowshoe whose case as been in court since 2014.

 

During the past ten years of the case, Crowshoe’s father Jimmy Crowshoe of the Piikani Nation has been going to courthouse to hear about updates on the case.

Jimmy has been growing his hair in memory of his late son during over decade and shares his current journey of healing while he awaits a final verdict.

 

The next date for Crowshoe’s case is set for later this month.
