Recent StatsCan report shows Alberta’s unemployment rate being the third highest in Canada

As the summer season ends, a recent stats Canada reports shows Alberta unemployment rates have gone up in the month of August.

Alberta’s current unemployment rate is sitting at 7.7 per cent which is 0.6 per cent up from July making the province’s rate the third highest in Canada.

The province’s major metropolitan areas Calgary and Edmonton both saw an increase of their unemployment rates with Edmonton sitting at the highest rate of 8.6 per cent which is 1.3 per cent higher than Calgary.

Lethbridge however did see a decrease in an unemployment with current rate of 4.9 per cent.

Over the summer, 27 per cent of students returning to full-time studies this fall, found themselves unemployed across the country.

Many jobs across the country saw a large shift towards part-time positions over full-time ones.
