Over twenty years ago, Randy Turning Robe’s late mother, Doreen Turning Robe-Jacobs, first proposed the idea of a Tiny Tot Powwow before the Awo Taan Board of Directors and there has been a powwow ever since.
Many underprivileged and marginalized children cannot attend powwows outside of Calgary due to socio-economic barriers.
With that the Tiny Tots powwow has become an essential cultural protective factor that buffers adversities through resilience, preserves Indigenous Ways of Knowing and fosters a cultural identity for all Indigenous children.
