Black carts are coming to the city of Airdrie after City Council voted to approve the program four to three.
According to City officials, the new automated black cart program is a move to modernize waste management and are in line with Airdrie’s environmental goals.
The move towards the carts came out of a recent public survey of 2,000 Airdrie residents conducted by City to gauge the public’s interest in such a program.
The black carts will be a uniform size of 120L for every household which will streamline waste collection and make an impact with pests and litter.
This switch to the carts will make it safer for workers as the carts will be picked up with an automatic claw from trucks.
Airdrie residents can expect to see the black carts roll out across the city by 2026 with more information will be announced in the coming months through the City’s official social media accounts and website.
