This weekend was the first weekend of the Lethbridge Police Department’s Christmas Check Stop Campaign.

LPD has already issued five Immediate Roadside Sanction Cautions, forty-seven violation tickets, towed nine vehicles and executed three warrants of impaired drivers.

Immediate Roadside Sanction Cautions are issued when a driver is found to be impaired, and consequences include a 15-month suspension, 30-day vehicle seizure, and $1,000 dollar fine, with penalties increasing on repeat offences.

The Check Stop Campaign will continue throughout December and the new year.

If you spot an impaired driver, call 911 right away.

MADD Lethbridge, the RCMP, and Alberta Sheriffs are all also involved with this Campaign.
