Fashion, Cheese, and Speed are the name of the game when it comes to Skijoring as the cultures of mountains and prairie come together for an exciting display of skill.
Skijoring combines the skills of skiing and snowboarding with raw natural horsepower as a rider tows a snow glider across a track to perform tricks over the heads of spectators.
Meanwhile, another element of this sport is the crowd participation by dressing up in retro ski gear along with those flashy fur coats.
What first started as a reason to gather friends together and enjoy fondue, Founder of Skijor Canada Sam Mitchell shares how the community has grown over the years.
This cheesy spectacle of good times is coming to southern Alberta audiences to Banff Snowdays on January 17 and 18 and later in February during Chinook Blast in Calgary at the Confluence Historic Site and Parkland with Skijordue.
Skijordue will feature local food trucks, markets, and good times to be had in the heart of Calgary which is the first time it will be in the city as the event has taken place at locations outside the city.
Due to the warmer weather throughout Southern Alberta and not the greatest snowfall, Mitchell says that throughout the winter, they have been preparing to ensure there is snow for the jumps and a safe track for the horses.
The spirit of Skijoring is getting outside during the winter to socialize with old and new friends while cheering on the harmonious combination of sport and spectacle.
