Tourism Calgary and Indigenous Tourism Alberta have signed a historic Memorandum of Understanding, which has led to greater partnership between the two organizations.

Over the years the demand for Indigenous experiences for tourists coming to Alberta has increased and is forecasted to contribute 144.3 million GDP to the province by 2026.

Because of the completion of the BMO Centre back in the summer of 2024, Calgary has become the second-biggest conference hub in Canada just behind Toronto.

This has led to a growing interest in the area’s unique Indigenous culture.

Along with the memorandum, Tourism Calgary will be committing one million dollars to Indigenous Tourism Alberta to further develop and promote Indigenous experiences and businesses something that Chair of Indigenous Tourism of Alberta Brenda Holder says is a win for everyone involved.

In 2024 almost 3,900 jobs were created in Indigenous tourism throughout Alberta and will only continue to rise.
