With frigid winter temperatures, the Alberta Winter Walk Day events on February 5 will see indoor participation, that’s a province-wide initiative that gets Albertans up and moving during the winter months.

Lesley McEwan, Executive Director for SHAPE Alberta spoke with CJWE saying with some events outdoors such as the gathering at the Alberta Legislature being called off, many facilities, schools, and organizations across the province are participating indoors and in short walks.

With lots of events taking place at seniors’ facilities, and schools across the province will participate in short walks around the school.

McEwan adds that it’s a rewarding feeling to see many participants getting active which helps in both physical and mental health. Along with many cities and communities challenging one another, with many participants registering on SHAPE’s website.

McEwan is hopeful to see increased activity from Albertans as traction from participating in the event helps to incorporate more physical activities in workplaces and schools and organizations.
