Cowboy Smithx and other prominent indigenous artists and professionals came together to inspire youth to pursue careers in media and the arts this past Thursday and Friday.

Youth from across the Siksika nation were invited to a workshop to explore and learn about the fields of art and media – from painting to filmmaking to culinary arts and radio.

Each day provided hands-on workshops and time with experienced professionals, keynote speakers, and some fun through traditional Blackfoot games teaching culture and heritage.

Cowboy Smithx, the mind behind this Artsdance, shares highlights and goals of the event:

Smith is also the founder of Redx Talks – an indigenous version of TEDx Talks, and is an award-winning filmmaker.  This was the first event of its kind in the area, taking place at the Siksika Piiksapi Memorial Arbor, and had nearly a hundred youth in attendance.
