The annual Calgary Hitmen’s Every Child Matters game is taking place Sunday, March 9, at the Scotiabank Saddledome as the Hitmen host the Brampton Wheat Kings.
This special game marks the fifth anniversary of the partnership between Siksika Health Services and Calgary Sports Entertainment Corporation (CSEC) that kickstarted the creation of Indigenous jerseys for each of the teams that operate under CSEC.
It all got started back in 2022 when the Hitmen launched its iconic orange jersey that is seen all over Southern Alberta. After each game, the Hitmen jerseys worn by the players are auctioned off to support Indigenous Youth Sporting programs in Siksika.
Nefew Keith spoke with Richard Running Rabbit of Siksika Health Services and co-creator of the Hitmen’s Every Child Matters Jersey about the partnership and what people can expect at Sunday’s game.
