Every year, local fire departments strand members of their crews on rooftops for a set period, where they camp out to raise money for Muscular Dystrophy Canada.
2025 marked a special year for Muscular Dystrophy Canada as it celebrated 70 years of partnership with Canadian Firefighters who have raised awareness and funds in their local communities.
In Medicine Hat, the day has special meaning for its seasoned Firefighers as local supporter Michael James Page came out every year to pass the boot around to help drum up support for the firefighters as he had Muscular Dystrophy and passed in 2013.
Dylan Yanke, one of the Firefighters who camped out over the weekend, explains how the fundraiser allows interactions that allow the community to connect with the service.

Along with filling boots with donations, those who are camping find ways to keep themselves entertained, and because of the WHL playoffs, one of the activities included cheering on the Medicine Hat Tigers.
As of Sunday, April 13, the Medicine Firefighters were able to raise $13,348.16, which was only $1,651.84 dollars short of this year’s goal of $15,000 dollars.
