The mits are coming off as two Southern Alberta towns are getting ready to take on one another in a 28-year-long tradition of seeing who can sell the most Tim Horton’s smile cookies for Family & Community Support Services.

Between the two towns, they have raised $129 thousand dollars while keeping a friendly rivalry between them.

The mit was first cast by Taber Mayor Andrew Prokop, who challenged neighbouring Mayor Jack Van Rijin who accepted and got to work on gathering volunteers to reach Coaldale’s Goal of 5,000+ smile cookies made and sold.

Nefew Keith spoke with Mayor Van Rijn about the challenge and how he’ll be leading the charge against the Corny town of Taber.

Before the interview with Mayor Van Rijn, Taber released a video on their Facebook page of Town crews led by Taber Mayor Prokop getting their cookie counts up as they picked up boxes of the sugary treat.

Mayor Prokop was unavailable for an interview with CJWE however, Nefew Keith was able to talk with Taber’s social media Mastermind and Communications Manager, Meghan Brennan, about Operation: Sweet Victory.

This great battle between the two towns will be taking place from April 28 to May 4 as residents from both towns and the surrounding area are encouraged to find ways to get involved, even if it’s picking up a few boxes.
