Medicine Hat Rodeo fans got a chance to get up close and personal with the annual Brocos and Honkey Tonks Spring Rodeo at the Medicine Hat Stampede Field House.

Tickets to this event were a hot commodity. Saturday, April 26, was completely sold out of its 1,200 seats, with door admission being sold for standing room.

Along with the sold-out Saturday shows, tickets sold well for both Friday and Sunday’s shows, with Friday having the lowest attendance as it was during the first night of the Medicine Hat Tigers double header against the Lethbridge Hurricanes for the Eastern Conference finals.

These ticket sales are important as they generate revenue for the Stampede, which includes their big capital project of a new Grandstand.

Seeing the sold-out Saturday, General Manager of the Medicine Hat Stampede and Exhibition, Ron Edwards, talks about how sold-out nights on the grounds show how the grounds are a gathering place for the community.

To help run the many events, the Stampede sees 300 volunteers assisting with various guest services.

This season, the Stampede and Exhibition is holding two 50/50’s that will be drawn at the end of the year, with proceeds going into the various programming that takes place on the grounds.

One called Southeast Alberta Friends of the Fair will be seeing proceeds going to the Stampede’s interpretive village, where the history of Medicine Hat is shared with the public and school groups.

Both draws will be taking place on August 28 and will have early bird draws after events like the Annual Summer Fair, Relay Race, and more.
