Outdoor Pow Wow

With June being the National Indigenous History Month, you can celebrate by heading on over to Heritage Park. They will be hosting a traditional pow wow Saturday, June 21, 2025. This community-led event will be held on the Heritage Park grounds from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm.

This pow wow gathering will be a day of celebrating connection, identity, culture, and everyone is welcome to attend. Come and experience traditional dancing, drumming, and Indigenous artistry.

This year, there will be a variety of specials happening throughout the pow wow, including:

  • Dance specials: The Hat and Boot Dance, the Potato Dance, and a surprise feature.
  • Baby Flats: A celebrated youth drumming group, made of boys ages 6-13.
  • Master of Ceremonies: Kiit Okii and Naomi Eyahpaise, hosts of APTN’ The Other Side—respected artists and community leaders who will guide the day’s storytelling and song.
  • Traditional Feast: A complementary traditional feast of Bison Burgers will be offered to the first 1,000 guests—an opportunity to connect through shared food and conversation.
  • Indigenous Market: Shop handcrafted items and artwork from Indigenous artists throughout the day. Heritage Park is still accepting interested vendors. Please contact Leena Sheppard for more info at lsheppard@heritagepark.ca or 1-587-323-5441.
  • Indigenous Art in the Park: Throughout the summer season, Heritage Park showcases Indigenous-led programming and exhibitions across the site. Don’t miss the striking installation by Métis artist Tracey-Mae Chambers, whose work explores connection, healing and reclamation.

Please note guests are encouraged to bring folding chairs and blankets as seating is festival style. Those who self-identify as Indigenous will receive free admission to Heritage Park. For more information on pricing, programming, and the traditional pow wow, you can contact Anita Crowshoe at acrowshoe@heritagepark.ca or 1-587-293-6276.
