Spring may still be on the calendar, but summer’s turning up the heat and your furry friends are feeling it too! As the sun blazes and sidewalks sizzle, it’s time to bump your pets to the top of your summer safety checklist. Whether they bark, purr, squawk, slither, swim or hop, our animal companions count on us to keep them cool, comfy, and out of harm’s way when the temps soar. Don’t let the heat catch you (or your pets!) off guard, let’s beat the burn before it begins!

About RVT Alana Pay via LinkedIn:
I’m a Registered Veterinary Technologist with a dynamic background across Zoo Medicine, Zoo Keeping, Small Animal, Exotics, Large Animal, and Mixed Animal Practice. Over the years, I’ve built extensive experience in Emergency Medicine and Wildlife Rehabilitation, giving me a solid foundation for managing diverse cases and challenges across species. Driven by a commitment to animal welfare and education, I work to promote excellence in Exotic Welfare and Medicine. As a public speaker, I enjoy educating audiences on evidence-based practices that elevate exotic animal care, fostering greater understanding and compassion for these unique species. In addition to my clinical work, I am deeply involved in Veterinary Teletriage, offering remote guidance to ensure timely intervention and support for critical cases. This work enables me to stay connected with both clients and colleagues in need, especially in urgent situations, and has taught me the nuances of effective, virtual care. My passion for animal welfare extends into education and training, where I focus on advancing public understanding of exotic medicine, wildlife care, and general veterinary science. With a holistic approach that spans hands-on care, rehabilitation, and education, I am dedicated to improving outcomes for animals in all environments—whether in the wild, zoos, or companion settings. I am constantly inspired by the opportunity to make a positive impact and eager to connect with other professionals who share this mission. Together, we can foster a world where all animals receive the care, respect, and attention they deserve.
