Environment Canada has issued special weather statements for this coming weekend across Southern Alberta, with some areas expecting between 40 mm to 100 mm of rain as some overnight temperatures will be dropping to the single digits.

Due to the special weather advisories, National Indigenous Day Celebrations, which were originally scheduled to be outside, are now moving indoors.

In the City of Lethbridge, the celebration hosted by Reconciliation Lethbridge will be moving from the Galt Gardens to the Lethbridge & District Exhibition’s Agri-food Hub & Trade Centre located on S Parkside Dr.

The Celebration is still scheduled to kick off at noon with a community feast followed by a cultural showcase, artist market, and more.

Meanwhile, just 30 minutes northeast in the town of Taber, the town’s celebration will also be moving indoors.

The new location for the celebration will be moving to the local Community Centre located on 50 Street by the Taber Ice Arena.

Organized by Eagle Spirit Nest Community Association, everything will begin with a Tipi raising at noon, followed by a Chaos lacrosse demo at 1 pm.

Both community celebrations will be accepting donations for local food banks.
