The Calgary Stampede invites everyone to the annual powwow held on July 12 & 13 from 12-6 pm at the Scotiabank Saddledome.
This vibrant and high-energy event is free with admission, and attendees can come and go, and will feature cash prizes for all categories, including Men’s Fancy, Women’s Fancy, Men’s Traditional, Women’s Traditional, Men’s Grass, Men’s Chicken, Women’s Jingle, and Men’s Buckskin.
Teens (13-17), Jr. adults (18-34), Sr. adults (35-54), and golden age.
Powwow coordinator Cheryl Crowchief is raising the stakes to be one of the biggest powwows in the world by sharing:
Crowchief also encourages those to experience this celebration by stating, “It’s a celebration we invite everybody to come dance, sing, to watch, to ask questions, that’s why we have our powwows, to celebrate with not only First Nations people but non-Native people. People who are coming from all over the world, to come and watch our cultural pride and ask questions.”
The powwow is holding two specials from the head woman and head man dance judges. Angelin Gadwa will be hosting Women’s Jingle and Cody Rabbit will be hosting Men’s Chicken.
Crowchief shares the significance of holding the Women’s Jingle special after the first grand entry. The Jingle dress is known as a healing dance, and by having this special first is their way of opening the powwow and blessing the entire celebration.
Dance registration is open until July 2, 2025. For more information, visit the Calgary Stampede Powwow website.
