WordFest brought the joy of a good book under a tree out to Calgarians for the second year in a row, to celebrate its thirtieth anniversary. Titled ‘Reading In The Wild’, this relaxed and chill family-friendly event had something for everyone – from local craft ice cream to live jazz and of course, books of all kinds for all ages. The event was hosted at the Central Memorial Park, home to Alberta’s oldest library.
Shelley Youngblut, the CEO and Creative Ringleader at WordFest, shared what they do and what makes this location special, saying “We put on 100 shows a year, so we’ll bring authors from all over the world… and we have our own theatre. It’s 150 seats, and we have a bar. We’re the only place in North America that has a bar in a library.” There were around 400 people who came out to join in community, reading on the grass and visiting with each other.
Everyone is always welcome to visit this space and join in on WordFest events.
