Hundreds of people gathered at the Piiksapi Memorial arbour for the Siksika Nation Fair this past weekend on June 27 to 29 2025, to celebrate Siksika culture, music, dance, and Indigenous artistry.

Before the powwow began the Blackfoot Historical Park started everything off with their 2025 Prairie Chicken Dance World Championships competition.

With Siksika Nation being the heart of the chicken dance, a lot of dancers travelled to Blackfoot territory to experience this vibrant and high energy event.

They honoured both the Blackfoot Confederacy and visitor chicken dancers by having separate categories for each age groups from Juniors, teens, Jr. Sr. and Golden age.

Alex Meninick of Yakama reservation in Washington, United States shares his experience:

Siksika Nation Fair powwow coordinator Chris Bull Bear gave an estimated number of how many dancers and drummers that were in the competition powwow by sharing, “Last time I checked on Friday it was at 630 but they were still registering so I’m estimating 650+ dancers and 18 drum groups.”

The fair also held a lot of events throughout the nation with many participants taking part in the following:

  • SIKSIKA OHKINNIINAA KI NINAAIKS (Chief and Council) Pancake Breakfast (1,250)
  • Rodeo
  • Hand games (90 teams)
  • Blackfoot Invitational Basketball
  • Golf (42 tems)
  • Slo-pitch (18 teams)

There was also a lot of Indigenous crafters, vendors, and delicious food!
