The Tsuut’ina Nation will be hosting the Indian National Finals Rodeo (INFR) Tour Rodeo Qualifier happening July 24 to the 27, at the Vincent Crowchild Sr. Memorial Rodeo Grounds during the Tsuut’ina Annual Celebration at Redwood Meadows.
The Tsuut’ina Nation is one of the biggest Indigenous rodeos in Canada and is one of the stops for those on the journey of qualifying for INFR.
Indigenous cowboys and cowgirls from all over turtle island spend an estimated 10 months out of the year to compete for the INFR hosted annually in October in Las Vegas.
Kevin LittleLight, executive director for the Tsuut’ina Nation community and recreation department explains how the rodeo will affect participants points to INFR:
According to LittleLight the rodeo in Tsuut’ina Nation will showcase numerous household rodeo names attending from the Treaty 7 area such as the Dodginghorse family from Tsuut’ina Nation, the Bruised Head family from Kainai Nation, Jim Stevens and his family from Siksika Nation, also families from Piikani, and The Crawler family from Mini Thni of the Stoney Nakoda First Nations to name a few.
This year, at the Runner Ladies Breakaway Final Four Short Go will be in memory of the late Fifi (Violet) Runner & late Margaret Dixon-Runner, as well as Men’s All-Around Saddle on behalf of the Crowchild family.
Another special for audiences who attend the Pro Rodeo can also expect exciting specials such as the Ring of Fear and Bull Poker happening on the Friday July 25, and Saturday July 26.
