For 20 summers people from across Alberta have flocked to George Lane Memorial Park in High River, AB. to enjoy live music of all genres! And 20 years isn’t a small feat for a live music event, so it deserves a celebration – and it’s getting one this weekend!
Originally founded in 2005 by Ron Schmidt and the Highwood Lions Club, this weekly event has become a staple summer series that many look forward to every year. Rain or shine, the music plays, the audience soaks in the sun lounging in their lawn chairs or huddle together and hang out under the gazebo to watch some of Alberta’s best rising stars, local favourites, established bands and everything in between.
On Sunday, Aug. 31st, there will be the Bandstand Sunday Funday Festival in honour of this spectacular, ongoing gathering of fabulous music and community. The afternoon will feature artists that encompass the past, present and future of the weekly Sunday afternoon tradition.
Lori Koehler with the High River Performing Arts Foundation and the VP of Operations and Maintenance with The Venue had a chat with us about this exciting party!
