A man wanted on a Canada-wide warrant was found dead inside a Calgary home in the northwest neighbourhood of Rosedale after police say he shot at officers who tried to make an arrest.

CPS said officers were trying to arrest a person wanted on a Canada-wide warrant when the shooting began.

At approximately 3:40 p.m., the suspect exited a vehicle in the 500 block of Crescent Heights Road N.W., and shot at police before entering a nearby residence with another individual.

At a press conference, Deputy Chief Cliff O’Brien, said when the two people got out of the car, they fired shots at a home with people inside, but no one was hurt and they were able to shelter inside. The suspects then entered an empty home.

Members were shot at from inside that residence, striking the armored rescue vehicle that they were in.

The suspect was confirmed dead just after 7 p.m., the release stated. The second individual, a woman, surrendered to police just after 5 p.m. and is in custody.

Police had been looking for the suspect for weeks.

During the incident, westbound Crescent Road was closed off beginning at Second Street N.W. Crescent Park in the Crescent Heights neighbourhood was closed as well. Police drones were also active, flying in the area.
