Wildfire smoke is causing very poor air quality and reduced visibility, affecting areas from Canmore to Olds, Calgary to Brooks, Medicine Hat to Crowsnest Pass, and the majority of Southern Alberta.
Environment Canada has issued Air Quality Warnings that are expected to remain in effect until later this week, urging any at-risk individuals to avoid activities outdoors completely. This includes children and the elderly, who should also avoid outdoor physical exertion.
Even the general population should reduce or reschedule strenuous activities, especially if you begin to experience throat irritation or coughing.
Lethbridge, Raymond, Calgary, and Airdrie are currently reporting the most severe air quality, with Lethbridge reaching a 9 on Alberta’s Air Quality Health Index (AQHI), which is a rising scale from 1 to 10, with 10 being the worst.
