In Calgary, an upcoming community walk is encouraging members to take time to reflect on the victories, the pain, and the tears along the road to reconciliation.
The Day for National Truth and Reconciliation is approaching, and many communities in Alberta are reflecting on their own journeys as they embark on the path of reconciliation.
The second walk for reconciliation was born from a dream by local Calgary resident Alfonz Nepoose after the announcement of unmarked graves in Kelowna, uncovered in 2021.
Nepoose, along with Layne Kilbreath of the Lantern Church, Calgary, who are helping organize the annual walk, came to CJWE to talk about what can be expected.
The Annual Walk will be taking place on Sunday, September 21, which will conclude with a community barbecue and musical performances from local Indigenous artists.
