Honouring Traditions and Reconciliation Society will host a week of events and workshops in Lethbridge to promote and engage in reconciliation.
Alberta Culture Days is the province’s month-long celebration of arts, heritage, diversity and community spirit in the province and In Lethbridge, Blackfoot culture will be on display as the Honouring Traditions and Reconciliation Society HTRS host various events throughout the city.
This will be done through workshops and events in the city, highlighting the journeys of recovery, leadership, and fashion.
President of HTRS Theron Black says that highlighting the beauty of Indigenous culture will help break stereotypes and greater movement towards reconciliation.
The third annual Honouring Traditions and Reconciliation Powwow and Artisan Expo is kicking off this week on September 10 with the first-ever Princess Pageant at CASA.
Princess Pageants empower future female leaders in the community by crowning royalty who represent the Powwow and its values.
Taking place over the weekend of September 13 and 14 at the Agri-Food & Trade Centre, the Powwow will feature a “Ask Questions” booth to help educate people on regalia and Powwow culture.
Vendors will also be attending, and along with local artists, there will be local community organisations that offer resources and programming.
Black says it’s also a chance for organisations to connect with future volunteers and team members.
