Jeromy Farkas has been confirmed as Calgary’s next mayor.
Farkas narrowly defeated Sonya Sharp in last week’s municipal election, but because the initial results were so close, a recount was ordered.
As a result, he increased his margin of victory from 581 votes to 616.
“Let’s get to work.”
He was a former city councilor who finished second to outgoing mayor Jyoti Gondek in 2021. Gondek finished third on Oct. 20.
Farkas said he has already been busy since winning the election, meeting one-on-one with each of the new councilors to set a tone for council that works together and is focused on results.
He has also met with the Calgary police commission and police service to address the need to improve downtown and transit safety, as well as with business leaders and social service organizations.
