The CPKC Holiday Train stopped in Didsbury yesterday (Tuesday, December 9), which saw a large turnout, despite the cold.
Each year, the CPKC Holiday Train tours across Canada and the United States in November and December, raising money, food, and awareness to support food banks across North America.
For the stop in Didsbury, the donations were going to the Mountain View Food Bank.
Doug, Director with the Mountain View Food Bank in Olds, was onsite at the Holiday Train stop in Didsbury, helping to collect donations.
According to Doug, they were hoping to collect around 2,000 pounds of food during the event.
But, don’t worry if you missed the CPKC Holiday Train and want to donate to the Mountain View Food Bank, because Doug says there will be other opportunities to donate.
Doug says that he always looks forward to seeing people doing what’s best for the community at these events.
As part of the CPKC Holiday Train, there are musical performances, and at the Didsbury stop, there was performances from Jade Eagleson and Teigen Gayse.
We were able to sit with Teigen Gayse for a quick chat.
According to Gayse, being part of the Holiday Train has been a great experience.
Teigen has been on the road with the CPKC Holiday for a few weeks, performing at numerous locations.
While they have been on the road for a few weeks, Gayse says they haven’t had much downtime.
With the train happening in late November and early December, Gayse says it has been a chilly experience, but they have been finding ways to stay warm.
The CPKC Holiday Train is still making its way across Canada, and there are stops planned for Okotoks, Blackie, Vulcan, Lethbridge, Fort Macleod, Pincher Creek, and Coleman before it heads into B.C.
Despite the chill, people showed up to the Holiday Train in force, donating 588 pounds of food and $693.75 to the Mountain View Food Bank.
