The Bearspaw First Nation held and Inauguration Ceremony today (Friday, January 9, 2026) for their elected Chief and Council.
Their election was held on November 25, 2025, which saw 720 of the 1085 total eligible voters cast their ballot.
As a result of the election, Chief Darcy Dixon was re-elected. Chief Dixon received 434 votes, while his opponent received 282 votes.
During a speech at the Inauguration, Chief Dixon expressed his thanks.
He went on to acknowledge the woman elected to council, Lena Wesley, as well as the younger people on council.
Chief Dixon says he looks forward to continue working on making it a better place for their people.
With that, Chief Dixon says he looks forward to hearing the voices of the people.
Chief Dixon was first elected as Chief in 1998.
Joining Chief Dixon on council is Roderick Hunter (Mînî Thnî), who received 231 votes, Lena Wesley (Mînî Thnî), who received 243 votes, Harry Daniels (Eden Valley), who received 222 votes, and Pierre Lefthand (Eden Valley), who received 308 votes.
Both Harry Daniels and Lena Wesley secured their spots in place of previous councillors Dacster Amos and Keith Lefthand.
